Sara is a member of the Law Society’s Council, representing solicitors in the voluntary sector, and past Chair of the Law Society’s Human Rights Committee.
She is Past President of the Human Rights Commission of the Federation of European Bar Associations (FBE), and was recently elected Vice President of the FBE. Sara is also a winner of a LUKAS (Latin UK Awards) award for Human Rights Worker of the Year.
She is a member of the Peace Brigades Lawyers Advisory Group, and is Chair of the Colombia Caravana UK Lawyers Group, a charity which supports human rights lawyers at risk in Colombia.
Sara is Visiting Professor of Clinical Legal Education at London South Bank University, working in the Legal Advice Clinic where she supervises students who give free legal advice to the public. Before becoming a lawyer, Sara worked with refugees from Chile for over 6 years as a bi-lingual social worker, and speaks Spanish fluently. She has worked for 15 years in Law Centres, 5 years in legal aid firms and 12 years in legal advice clinics training law students to assist members of the public in human rights and social welfare law.
Between 2003 and 2012 Sara worked with law societies, bar associations, and law schools, in Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia to promote legal aid and free legal help for poor people.
